Rescue 14 EMS, Inc. was formed in 1968 by a group of men and women from the West Hempfield-Adamsburg-Arona Area with help from persons who were already volunteers of some surrounding services including North Huntingdon Township Rescue 8. The organization was first known as West Hempfield-Adamsburg Rescue 14. The members received equipment and assistance from the Tompkins Funeral Home of Adamsburg.
Rescue 14 EMS, Inc. was picked as the name because it was the 14th volunteer service in Hempfield Township (the other 13 are the VFD's of which 12 are remaining as New Stanton became a Boro). Rescue 14 EMS, Inc. is the only Township Base EMS Services serving the 8000 or so residents of the 15 square miles of the Western side of Hempfield Township from Lincoln Heights to West Hempfield, from Darragh to Wegley as well as all in between including the Boro's of Adamsburg and Arona.
Rescue 14 EMS Inc. currently operates 2 Advance Life Support Ambulances from it's station on Edna Road and has 10-14 employees supplemented by 15 to 20 volunteers. In this group we have 10+ Paramedics, Pre-Hospital RN's and RN's and 20 or so EMT's. In many case we have 2nd and 3rd generation family employees and volunteers. We cooperate closely with the Adamsburg and Community VFD on a variety of special calls for request as well as everyday emergencies. We receive our Medical Command from UPMC and run an average of 1000 calls a year. We participate in and with the Westmoreland County EMS Council, Westmoreland County Ambulance and Rescue Association, the Hempfield Township Chief's Association and the Emergency Medical Services Institute.
Our Emergency Number is 911 and the calls are answered by the Westmoreland County Department of Public Safety who then activates our pagers with information for assistance.
Our subscription year runs from May 1 of the year to May 30 of the next.
